Personal Development

No opportunity is missed to enhance our children's personal development. Children are inspired to take part in a wide range of clubs and enriching activities during and outside of the school day. They benefit from excellent opportunities that enhance their learning and prepare them to take their place in the society, including the world of work.

By the time they have left year two, our children have trained and worked as First Aiders and Mini Middays. We have carefully considered how these opportunities progress throughout key stage two.

Year Three - Kindly Carers

Year Three children make bi weekly visits to Brabourne care home. They also invite the residents to attend school events and they send them letters and cards too. On their visits, the children, read stories, talk about what they have been learning, bring special gifts, like The Willesborough School Lockdown Learning book and generally have a biscuit and a natter!

Year Four - Early Experience Mentors

Year Four children make bi weekly visits to the Willesborough reception class children. They support them through the first 'big school' experiences they encounter throughout the year. They help the children in assemblies, help them to enjoy shows and events and help them when they start using the big playground.

Year Five - Year Three Mentors

Year five children deliver weekly duties of support to the youngest children throughout their first year in key stage two. This is at break times and lunchtimes on the playground and in the school hall. They help them around the school, showing them where to go. They make sure that everyone has a friend and a game to play with.

Year Six Apprentices

All of our year six children have a responsibility or job that contributes towards the running of the school, enhancing our school community. All roles are equal and this is the fundamental value that underpins what they do. Each post holder has a detailed job description and applies for their job in September.

Health, Safety Officers - Amongst many duties, they carry out termly health and safety monitoring visits across the school. They report back to the senior leadership team and attend governing body meetings to discuss our findings.

Digital Leaders - Are responsible for ensuring that all computing equipment is stored securely and is kept tidy. They are also ambassadors for online safety across the school, helping to educate others on how to be a safe and responsible online citizen.

House Captains - Are responsible for ensuring that house points are counted every week and awards shared fairly. They promote and lead 'team spirit' during celebration assemblies and special events such as sports day.

Learning Mentors - Support the learning of younger children. They listen to a key stage one child read on a weekly basis, through a reading buddy system, where they establish a relationship with the child and coach them through their reading development.

Sports Leaders – Support the key stage one children with their playtimes. They go over to the infant school once a week at lunchtimes. They set up playtime games and encourage the children to play fairly, have fun with their peers whilst staying healthy too!

Librarians – Support Mrs Handley in the library. We help her keep the library a peaceful reading environment. They make sure that all the books are returned and placed on the shelves following our categorising system.

Office Assistants – Support the office staff in our school with daily jobs. They collect and deliver letters, use the photocopier, answer the phones and help with whole school projects. For example, packing harvest festival goods and other charity initiatives (Children in Need, Cry in the Dark Shoebox Appeal etc).

Site Managers – Help the school caretakers keep our school grounds tidy. Litter picking, sweeping up leaves, looking after the plants in the polytunnel, helping to set up for assemblies and parent workshops and we keep an eye on the school’s electricity and water usage!
