On 27th March, we were lucky to be visited by two members of the child-centred policing team, Rikki Apps and Dom Srugys. They came to the school to talk through internet safety with the year 6 children, covering the dangers of what information is shared online, the risks of sharing pictures, and how AI-generated images need to be questioned. The children were able to think about information that could be taken from them, such as personal images, dates of birth, and adults' bank details. They talked through catfishing and the impact that this can have on them, as well as what the impacts can be for online bullying and sharing indecent images of themselves. Throughout the presentation, they encouraged the children to interact and asked questions that kept them transfixed.
They worked with the children in a friendly manner to build trust and help them feel comfortable talking to the police. After they finished, during pick-up time, they encouraged parents and children to sit in the police car. Parents could take photos, talk to the officers, and get high fives and fist bumps.
Thank you so much to the child-centred police team for visiting us!
